What exactly does the strength attribute affect? I'm currently spelunking with Conan... (that sounds a bit suggestive) and while I'm glad he's permanently ripped... I don't know what that means. :|

Thanks e'erbuddy...

Well, strength gives your character bonuses on his or her chances to hit a monster, and allows you to do more damage to a monster if you hit them. A strength of 16 is pretty average, but as your strength climbs toward the max of 31, you gain larger bonuses along the way (by the time your strength reaches 31, its something like +5 to hit, and +7 to damage if I recall correctly).

If your strength goes below 16, you'll eventually start doing less damage and be less likely to hit monsters! Your minimum strength is 3. If you get that low you better watch out because all the monsters will start kicking sand in your face and calling you a weakling :D

Thanks for the data, data. I'd say if you could briefly explain that in your info(?) button that may help other peoples who are too lazy to come to the forum and dig/ask. 8-)

edit:

Hey! Does strength also impact your heal rate? Seems like Conan is a quick heal...

i think CD is working on the mythical faq that will eventually be accessible in-game, that should explain all the basics including strength.

also you should edit your original post to fix the spelling of strength so that foreign forum viewers will know what this thread is about. as an odd side note, i think strength may be the only word that has seven letters and only one vowel?

there's also some more details on how strength works at the rogue vade-mecum, http://www.monmouth.com/~colonel/rvm.html although i'm not sure how closely CD followed those parameters.

edit: regarding heal rate i think it's only affected by your experience level, here are the details from the vade-mecum:

Experience Level

Experience Points / Heal Rate (HP:turns)
---------------------------------------------
0/1:18
10/1:17
20 /1:15

Bah! I'll change it... but I consider this a personal favor to all foreigners. Everyone outside of Rochester, NY... where we pronounce it strungfth... owes me a ham sandwich or a ride to the mall. ;)

HaHa! Beat you to it. If I ever get down that way I'll bring a sandwich with me :D

twalkabout, that list of experience and healing rate is pretty close to accurate. The mythical FAQ is taking on a lot more important position with so many new players!
