Well I finally retrieved the amulet and escaped the dungeon. It's something I have been trying to do since about 1990. I did have some help from + 2 elfin mail, cornecopia and a +1 +3 warhammer. What really helped was knockback. It seems to really kick in at a strength of 26.
A few things I learned:
Don't throw good weapons at monsters when in hallways. When the monster dies sometimes your weapons disappear. I've only had this happen in halls.
Dragons seem immune to knockback, they should not be battled strictly by melee. You should polymorph, feed, paralyze and range attack, or cornucopia.
You should have a ring of searching or you will get frustrated with pit traps on the way up.
Set up your backpack so that the item at the bottom is of little importance as you will likely lose it to a nymph. It seems that nymphs always steal the bottom most item in your pack.
That's all for now.
Finally
Re: Finally
Congrats on your win!!!
I believe that the first one is a bug that's never been worked out (but known). The second one IS a bug that there's a planned fix for; when fixed, she'll randomly take an item that you do not current have equipped.ironcashew wrote: Don't throw good weapons at monsters when in hallways. Re: Finally
Why not leave it to be something that can be planned for so that EVERYTHING isn't due to random luck. I like that she steals the bottommost unequipped item as it makes it so you plan for it and add a level of skill to this blasted game!I believe that the first one is a bug that's never been worked out (but known). Re: Finally
Because "planning" involves tedious inventory manipulation which was never intended to be a part of core Rogue gameplay (or this version, for that matter). Inventory manipulation of this type isn't a skill.
