Very sluggish

Post by oldroguer »

So I've been away from RT for many months, just fired it up to start a new game. The app is very very sluggish at times. Usually when fighting, when you can see the slow animation of a swing and a miss. I was expecting the blinding responsiveness I remember from a few months ago, but this is horrible. Throwing a weapon used to scream across the screen; not now.

I always keep a minimum number of apps open in iOS4. I'm running RT 1.6.

Anybody else seeing this? Is this a result of yet another Apple upgrade that makes things run worse than before the upgrade?

Help!

Which iOS are you using??? Anything newer than 4.1 totally sucks. I've held off updating my iPhone's OS so that I can still play without that massive slowdown.

Yes, iOS 4.2 and newer have some sort of defect in them that Apple introduced, which slows down any CGContext drawing. They hurt performance once, going to iOS 4.0. I managed to come up with workarounds to gain back most of the speed. Then they absolutely destroyed performance again, this time in iOS 4.2. Rogue Touch in its current form (version 1.6) is sluggish at best on the newer OSes.

Good news is I'm working on a pretty fantastic overhaul of Rogue Touch, which will convert all drawing to OpenGL, and provide a lot of other cool features. This will be Rogue Touch 2.0... I can't provide a specific date for release yet, but I absolutely want to finish it up and release it by summer

Watch this site and forums for more info, a complete redesign of the site is just about done and will be going live in the next week ;)

Yeah, I figured that was the problem. Silly me, I've blindly kept updating and am currently running iOS 4.3.2.

CD, can't wait for 2.0. If you need any beta testers.... ;)
