I even tried restoring back to os 4.1 just to get rogue working properly again
And then spent 2 hours getting it back to a working os4.2 with still jerky rogue :(

Imo this is Best iPhone game ever so far
Certainly most used app by me
Loved rogue on old mainframe systems
Your version is a great port to touch screen interface

Looking forward to mineko though
Very glad that Rogue Touch is a favorite of yours! I still play it too of course

Its tough to estimate the timeframe for overhaul of the base engine. If we get lucky and Apple untweaks whatever they tweaked during the move from 4.1->4.2 when we move from 4.2->4.3 it may not matter. I'd suspect iOS 4.3 may be announced and/or released on this Wednesday (March 2nd) when the next generation iPad is revealed.

Rather than battle the issue of 4.2 any further I've decided to wait until then. If the performance does not improve in 4.3, I will put my plan into high gear and try to get the engine converted to OpenGL as soon as possible! :ugeek:

Hope to have an update for this thread in two days ;)

Well, the official iOS 4.3 update arrived today and performance has not improved :(

In order to make Rogue Touch enjoyable on iOS 4.2 and 4.3 I'll pick back up and continue my work on a new OpenGL engine for rendering the dungeon. If you have iOS 3.x or iOS 4.0 or 4.1 and are a regular player of Rogue Touch it might be best to resist upgrading until my new engine is ready.

We'll call this next one Rogue Touch 2.0. Expect to see a major improvement to speed an memory use, and maybe an extra surprise or two! :D

I just got an iPhone4, that had 4.3 on it already...gaaahhh, it's awful. 4.3.3 didn't help at all, either. Hope you get RT rewritten soon. As for now, I'll just play it on my old phone or iPod, as the lag makes it unplayable on my current phone :(

A small status update for you NightOwl40 (and everyone else):

Rogue Touch is in the process of being rewritten for speed and OpenGL goodness, and there are some fun times ahead. I had really hoped to have a playable demo in time for WWDC in San Francisco next month, but that's only a few weeks away... fingers crossed though!

It won't be much longer than that I hope, if all goes well everyone will be playing a dramatically upgraded RT 2.0 sometime next month :D

*happydance* I can hardly wait :D Much as I love my new iPhone 4, being unable to play this game on it is frustrating...thankfully I still have my old 3GS and 2nd-gen iPod to play it on while I wait. Hope you can get it finished soon ;)

Can't wait! I've only got my iPhone 4, but I'm so addicted to RT that I keep playing even though perf is crap most of the time.

Looking forward to the new release.
