Thoughts on a more simple Rogue like

Post by ejfarraro »

I ran across this game called Tiny Crawl (Flash) and wanted to get some thoughts on it:

It was made as part of a game contest. It feels very much like a Rogue to me, but is much more accessible. It has some key elements (exploration, perma-death) but runs seem to be much faster and are less demoralizing when you die. It also does away with things like searching, and exploration is relatively easy in this game.

Give it a try, and let me know your thoughts. I'm intrigued by the idea of coming up with a Rogue/RPG type game that could hit Top 25 overall, not confined to RPG -- a mainstream Rogue, if you will.

ejfarraro, I will most definitely check it out. I agree that I'd like to see a roguelike that could break through the "glass ceiling" that keeps out anything but doodle jump apps, zombies, farting, boobs, illegal mario soundbords, *insert annoying success here*

I will be continuing with my bigger project of course, because it's one I believe in personally, but I know that it will never see the Top 25 overall chart. I'd be happy to sit around in the Top 25 RPGs for several months though. Games like Zenonia, Ravensword, and others have definitely made a fair amount of pocket change

Anyway, after I take a look at this and digest it I'll post some thoughts here. Anyone else that wants to take a look that game and join in the discussion please do!
