Various Questions

What is the difference between a ring of strength and a ring of +damage? Don't they do the same thing?

If I have a stack of 10 -1/0 arrows and then pick up a stack of 10 +1/+1 arrows, in my inventory it will show 20 +1/+1 arrows, so do I actually have 20 +1/+1 arrows now?

What is % chance that lightning bolts hit on weapons of lightning? It seems as if the cold proc happens a lot more, is that correct? Or is just because cold has 2 effects?

What does the Something Smells Good message on a level mean? Super food?

smells good means just food in general

the arrows are different and wont stack

strength also effects your health regen rate, and im not sure what if anything else

im not sure about weapon procs but i assume they are all about equal

Actually arrows of different types DO stack...which is why I asked. Exactly as I explained...just not sure if the whole stack changes, or if it keeps track of how many are of which type.

that seems rather odd, and probably unintentional

Ammo does stack intentionally, and the various attributes are blended together, with positive ones winning out. This was not the case prior to 1.5... if you had 24 +2,+2 flaming arrows and picked up 15 regular arrows you'd end up with 39 regular arrows... which pissed some people off I can imagine! The stacking is done so your inventory does not get cluttered with multiple bundles of ammo, and it makes it easy for me to pull from one slot when you shoot. The fact that beneficial enchantments stack is a bonus for the player :D

In general, the probability of a super weapon discharging magic (any of the three elements or blessing) is equal to 10x the "to hit" bonus. So the beginning +2 to hit when you find one of these means a 20% chance of discharging lightning. Obviously if you get it to +10 to hit, you will always fry the enemy if you actually hit them!

"Something smells good" is simply a warning when you are hungry, weak, or faint and there is food available on the level somewhere. It actually trips a bit before you get hungry. The purpose is to help the hungry rogue decide if it's worth searching the whole floor to find a ration of food. If you don't see that message and you need food, dive or ascend as soon as you find the stairs and hope the next floor has food

Ok, knowing that hit probability actually affects the elemental bonuses is really interesting and that changes my thinking about some things. thanks!

The Something Smells good message is also really cool, always wondered what that meant.

What does the "sense powerful magic" message mean?

It usually means there is a powerful staff or enchanted weapon on that level. Sometimes you can pick up a staff with 50+ charges on it.

I have a question, what happens if you wear TWO ring of kings? Do you get double xp just walking around? This probably never happens considering the rarity of the ring of kings though... I might just keep reloading My Precious until I get it. I just got two rings of aggravate monster... I wonder if that makes them REALLY pissed :D

Try this little beauty http://www.monmouth.com/~colonel/rvm.html

Its based on the original code, but from conversations I've seen with CD, a lot of the percentage to drop and additional consumption ratios are very similar. Some of the names are different but for me, it definitely has its uses.
