See, and I think that is the power of having such a cool replayable game with almost no story of it's own...it's up to the player to make up their own rationale for being in the dungeon and explaining what's actually happening.

I totally understand that... but when you only find 2 food in 9 levels, then another game you find 4 food in 3 levels, something is wrong. Either you should be able to buy food, or there should be some assurance that you might find food every couple levels. either that, or you should be able to eat...

I recommend using scrolls and potions immediately so that later on the game so you identify them and don't have to take a chance on having a detrimental effect placed on you and end up getting wailed on by a dragon or griffin.
