Just finished a run where I died on level 56 and had to replay the damn level 3 times because of crashing back to the home screen. You don't need to be wearing the Ring Of Kings for Wraiths to have this effect. I have done the same thing wearing no rings and while I would get bumped down in exp my max hit points usually increased after killing the wraith and re-levelling.

Boy I never even think of these things (Level Dancing ect.) I just forge forward until I grab the amulet then head up...So my scores on the list are done with no dancing.

I got hit twice and lost a level once. So I know it can happen.
